Calm Minds

Understanding Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders involve persistent fear, worry, or nervous system activation that interferes with daily functioning. While anxiety is a normal human response, anxiety disorders occur when the nervous system remains in a state of heightened alert even in the absence of real threat.

Many individuals with anxiety disorders are high-functioning on the outside while internally managing constant mental noise, physical tension, and anticipatory fear. Anxiety often co-occurs with trauma, depression, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, or neurodivergence, and is frequently misunderstood as a personal weakness rather than a treatable condition

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Panic disorder and panic attacks
  • Social Anxiety and performance anxiety
  • Health Anxiety
  • Phobias and avoidance behaviors
  • Anxiety related to trauma or chronic stress
  • Anxiety in neurodivergent adults

Our Therapeutic Approach

We provide outpatient anxiety treatment grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), exposure-based strategies when appropriate, and trauma-informed care. Treatment focuses on understanding anxiety’s patterns, reducing avoidance, and retraining the nervous system through skills, insight, and gradual behavioral change. Rather than attempting to eliminate anxiety entirely, therapy emphasizes increasing tolerance, flexibility, and confidence in responding to anxious thoughts and physical sensations.
