Understanding Depression and Grief

Depression is not simply sadness. It often involves a loss of energy, motivation, pleasure, or connection to oneself and others. For many individuals, depression develops gradually and becomes normalized over time, making it difficult to recognize as treatable.

Grief may accompany depression or exist on its own. Grief can follow the death of a loved one, but it can also arise after relationship loss, identity shifts, health changes, or cumulative stress. While grief is a natural human response, it can become complicated or overwhelming when support, processing, or meaning-making is disrupted.

We approach depression and grief with clinical care that distinguishes between normative emotional pain and symptoms that require structured therapeutic intervention.

Common Experiences We Address

  • Persistent sadness, numbness, or emptiness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities
  • Fatigue, low motivation, or cognitive slowing
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or shame
  • Sleep or appetite changes
  • Grief related to death, relationship loss, or life transitions
  • Depression co-occurring with trauma, anxiety, or chronic stress

Our Therapeutic Approach

We provide outpatient therapy grounded in evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches. Treatment may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), emotion-focused interventions, and supportive processing of loss and meaning.

Therapy focuses on restoring emotional range, rebuilding routine and engagement, and addressing underlying contributors such as trauma, chronic stress, or unprocessed grief. The pace of treatment is individualized, recognizing that grief does not follow a linear timeline and depression often requires both practical and emotional intervention.

Who This Service Is For

  • Adults experiencing mild to severe depressive symptoms
  • Individuals navigating grief or loss alongside mood changes
  • Clients feeling emotionally stuck, depleted, or disconnected
  • Those transitioning from higher levels of care into outpatient support
  • Individuals seeking therapy that respects grief without minimizing depression
